November 2, 2026 · Louisville Rickhouse · 21+ to taste
The Kentucky Bourbon Trail is a Kentucky Distillers' Association program of distilleries you can tour and taste. It is not a single highway. You pick the stops. A lot of visitors start in Louisville, because NuLu and Whiskey Row put several rooms in a small area.
Start in Louisville, then choose a cluster
Two neighborhoods do most of the work inside the city. NuLu (the East Market District) is walkable: distilleries, tasting rooms, restaurants, and shops along East Market. Whiskey Row is the historic downtown row on West Main. They are a short ride apart, not a single stroll. The longer Kentucky Bourbon Trail guide on this site covers how the program is organized, including the larger trail and the craft tour.
The Frazier History Museum on Main Street is the welcome center many visitors use to pick up a passport, as noted in our things to do in Louisville guide. This page is about the NuLu hour you can lock in before the rest of the day spreads out.
Put the rickhouse on the day
Louisville Rickhouse is at 717 E Market St, in the middle of NuLu. It is a government-bonded rickhouse with a small working still. The visit is barrel-side, not a long production-line tour. That makes it a practical anchor: 30–45 minutes for a guided flight, or about an hour if you are picking a single barrel.
Book that anchor first. Popular tastings fill on weekends. If you would rather wander, barrel flights are poured at the bar when there is room. Either way, you are 21+ to taste.
- Book the Premium Tasting ($50, about 30–45 minutes) if you want a curated flight and a set time.
- Walk in for a flight if the bar has room and you are already on East Market.
- Use the Louisville distillery map and the district directory to see what else sits in NuLu and on Whiskey Row.
- Leave room for food. Two or three stops in a day is the pace our trail guide recommends, not a stamp race.
A simple Louisville sequence
Morning or early afternoon in NuLu, while you can still walk. Hold the booked tasting, then stay on East Market or ride to Whiskey Row. If the plan includes more than one tasting, line up a driver or rideshare. Our best distillery tours page is the longer local map, with notes on where walk-ins are realistic.
The Urban Bourbon Trail is a separate passport of bars and restaurants, not the distillery trail. If that is the day you want, start with the Urban Bourbon Trail guide and add one rickhouse flight so the day is not only bar pours.
