Book the tasting before the rest of the day
If you are in Louisville for the holidays, reserve the tasting first. Louisville Rickhouse pours barrel-side whiskey at 717 E Market St, in NuLu (the East Market District). Guided tastings are booked online, which is how you hold a time. Weekends fill up, and Derby season does too, so a holiday weekend is the time to reserve rather than hope for a seat.
Prices and lengths below are the ones already printed on each experience page. See the tastings and book. The full side-by-side of those tastings lives on the bourbon tasting guide.
- Premium Tasting — $50 per person, about 30–45 minutes. A flight pulled straight from the barrel.
- Whiskey and Chocolate Pairing — $50 per person, about 45 minutes. Four pours and four handcrafted chocolates. That page also offers wine instead of whiskey.
- Experimental Deep Dive — $50 per person, about 30–45 minutes.
- Rare and Allocated — $75 per person, about 30–45 minutes.
- Single Barrel Experience — $150 per person, about 60 minutes, one bottle included.
Groups of 8 or more, and private buyouts, go through private events. A whole barrel for a group is a separate request on the single barrel page (roughly 150 to 250 bottles).
A walk-in barrel flight is the secondary line. Come during open hours and the bar pours when there is room. The experiences page lists flights from $35. It is not a reserved seat.
A holiday tasting and a gift bottle
For a December booking, the Whiskey and Chocolate Pairing is the sit-down that already pairs four pours with four chocolates. It is not a separate holiday menu and it is not a limited drop. It is the $50 pairing on the site, and it fits a cold afternoon.
If the gift is a bottle, book the Single Barrel Experience. You taste through barrel candidates, choose one, and leave with a bottle of that pick included. You can buy more of that barrel. The price is $150 per person, about 60 minutes.
You can also shop bottles to send, or ask for a gift card on the bourbon gifts page. This page does not add bottle prices that are not already printed on the site.
Things to do in Louisville in December
Things to do in Louisville in December work better once the tasting is already booked. Plan on about 30–45 minutes for most guided tastings, or about 60 minutes for the single barrel, then use the rest of the day. Eat before you taste if you can, and use a driver or rideshare if you are going on to another neighborhood.
GoToLouisville, the official visitor site, lists three winter events in plain terms. Light Up Louisville is the downtown holiday lighting event at Jefferson Square Park. Lights Under Louisville is a drive-through light show at Louisville Mega Cavern, 1841 Taylor Ave. Bardstown Road Aglow is a lighting and shopping day in the Highlands, from Douglass Loop along Bardstown Road and Baxter Avenue toward Broadway. Dates, hours, and ticket prices for those events stay on GoToLouisville. This page does not copy them.
After the tasting, stay on East Market. Shops, dining, and the other rooms around the rickhouse are on the NuLu visitor guide. The year-round city list, including Churchill Downs, Museum Row, and the waterfront, is on the Louisville visitor guide. A couple who wants dinner after the pairing can use the date-night page.
Louisville Rickhouse is not on the Urban Bourbon Trail. A tasting here is a rickhouse visit. It is separate from any bar passport.
